JULY 24
(GMT +13) / NUKU'ALOFA
Life is slipping back to normal as the official mourning of the lost royals comes to an end. We spend the morning trying to find cable to extend the range of our light sensor in relation to the laptop controlling it. Nothing is straight forward when you are tourists on a small island and we are sent from warehouse to shopfront to office to industrial estate.
Eventually we find what we need and take time out for iced coffee at the Friends cafe then head down to the waterfront where we take a water taxi to the nearby island of Pangaimotu.

We circumvent the island in less than thirty minutes: it's one of those clumps of coconut palms fringed with yellow and white coral sands and the odd mangrove. We notice plenty of storm damage on the northern tip from cyclones past and mention it to a fellow passenger while waiting for the boat back to Nuku'alofa.
The man (we never asked his name) then tells us about the recent tsunami scare on these islands. Apparently one BBC World newscaster cited Tonga instead of Java when reporting the recent and tragic tidal wave in Indonesia.

Panic quickly ensued as phones rang around the island and soon quite a few people were running to the middle of the island and even climbing trees in the hope of escape.
